Module 7: Digital Systems, Safety and Recovery

Build an accurate mental model of your computer, make justified access decisions and recover a small artifact. No programming, command line, software purchase or administrator access is required. Begin after the computer-readiness repair if needed; study the state and safety clusters before installing development tools. Finish the recovery cluster while practicing files and Git.

Outcomes

  • Distinguish an application, running state, saved file and synchronized copy.
  • Trace a file's location and origin, and a link's actual destination.
  • Explain permission scope, private recovery arrangements and update decisions.
  • Perform a disposable restore, detect an incomplete restore and diagnose a wrong-file incident.

Recovery and Diagnosis

After each cluster, complete its matching practice. Then use the guided lab, worked examples, exercises, case studies and mistake clinic. Attempt the independent assessment before the calibration.

Workload and evidence

Lessons/selective sources 3–4 hours; three cluster practices 2–3; recovery lab and evidence 2–3; assessment and one repair 1–2. Total 8–12 focused hours. Module 2 still owns terminal/editor commands; Module 3 owns Git. The same-file GUI diagnostic in readiness is a prerequisite repair, not repeated module practice.

Completion

Each of the three rubric dimensions must reach 2/2 on observable evidence. A high average cannot compensate for a missing practical or independent check. Repair with a fresh variant. See Launchpad integration for evidence reuse and sequencing.

Full-book reading is not required. Use reading guidance, reference and resources selectively. These are authored lessons awaiting independent review and learner pilots; site checks do not establish educational effectiveness.
