Translation assessment gates
Score each gate: 0 missing/incorrect, 1 partial or prompted, 2 independently correct with inspectable evidence, 3 fresh-case transfer with limitations. Every gate needs 2; scores cannot compensate for a failed gate.
- VM1 — Address contract: split addresses and preserve offsets at both page boundaries; reject invalid requests without changing counters.
- VM2 — Fault classification: demonstrate miss/success, hit/protection, unmapped and nonresident outcomes, including explicit remap-and-retry.
- VM3 — Cache implementation: own starter passes checks and three independently designed cases; explain successful-only LRU recency and distinguish cache eviction from resident-page replacement.
- VM4 — Coherence and isolation: demonstrate ASID separation, frame remap, permission downgrade and unmap; reject the invalidation mutant and explain its mechanism.
- VM5 — Evidence and scope: reconcile counters, compare capacities and state what cannot be inferred about timing, disk I/O, hardware fault precedence or multicore shootdowns.
- VM6 — Delayed transfer: after 48 hours, solve a fresh remap/permission trace and connect isolation to process state and synchronization obligations. Preserve assistance disclosures and original failures.
Allocate 5–7 hours including delayed repair; elapsed waiting is not study time. Record score, evidence path, feedback, repair and new retest for each gate. Failed evidence remains incomplete. Automated tests cannot grade independent understanding. Use calibration after attempting the tasks. Original module completion requirements remain required.
