Module 4: Learning, Memory and Calibration
Turn study time into evidence of retained understanding. Launchpad establishes a routine; this module checks what that routine actually teaches. Begin alongside Programming Basics and reuse its work.
Planning allowance: 8–12 focused hours, included in the revised semester total. Authored candidate; independent review and learner timing remain pending. Full-book reading is not required. All required activities work with the local lessons and free linked guidance; books and complete external courses are optional.
Entry diagnostic
Without looking anything up, explain one idea from your last study session and apply it to a different example. Predict which parts are correct, then check. Familiarity without an answer identifies a useful starting point; it is not a reason to repeat Launchpad.
Outcomes
- Produce a closed-source explanation and a changed-example solution.
- Compare confidence with observed performance without treating confidence as a grade.
- Plan spaced checks, interpret failures and choose a targeted repair.
Learning route
- Retrieval, Understanding and Transfer.
- Calibration, Feedback and Repair.
- Worked example, then the guided lab.
- Exercises, then the assessment and calibration.
Workload and evidence
Lessons and selective reading 2–3; learning lab 4–6; assessment and one repair 2–3. The delayed check uses one already scheduled programming-retention session; score the learning process here and the programming answer there. Do not count the same minutes twice.
Preserve: A before/after attempt, an explicit scoring rule, a delayed changed example and a justified next-step decision. Use the private practice record. Keep actual observations separate from planned actions and simulated results. Reuse existing artifacts with links rather than making a second portfolio.
Completion
Pass all three module-specific dimensions in assessment. Each must reach 2/2; a missing dimension cannot be averaged away. A failed technical answer may be repaired in its original module while this module assesses the quality of your learning process. Do not invent a successful outcome to make the record look complete.
See the semester integration for timing, reuse and progression. Reading guidance explains when to use the resources.
