Network framing assessment gates
Score each gate 0 missing/incorrect, 1 partial or prompted, 2 independently correct with evidence, 3 fresh-case transfer with limitations. Every gate needs 2; no aggregate score overrides a failed requirement.
- NW1 — Wire contract: explain byte order, inclusive payload bound, empty-message policy and state across fragmented/coalesced input.
- NW2 — Errors and EOF: distinguish empty feed from finish, truncation from clean EOF, and earlier emitted messages from later terminal errors.
- NW3 — Implementation: own starter passes checks plus independent cases; explain validation before payload allocation and the scope of memory bounds.
- NW4 — Fault discrimination: reject a byte-order, trailing-message loss or deadline-reset fault with a minimal distinguishing trace and repair.
- NW5 — Integration: specify socket EOF/error handling, timer scheduling, backpressure and resource cleanup; distinguish parser correctness from transport security and reliable business effects.
- NW6 — Retained transfer: after 48 hours, solve a new fragmentation/deadline case and connect request-timeout uncertainty to the earlier durable-commit example.
Budget 6–8 hours including repair and delayed recall; elapsed waiting is not study time. Record initial score, evidence path, feedback, fresh repair case and final score. Failed evidence remains incomplete. Automated checks do not establish learner independence. Consult calibration after attempting; all original networking requirements remain required.
