Instructor Guide and Review Status

Status: authored revision and executable verification candidate. Independent subject review, scoring calibration and learner pilots are pending. A passing package or rendered website does not establish teaching effectiveness.

Review scope

Review all 16 concepts and the added engineering lesson. Focus on expected versus worst-case quickselect, distinct-key assumptions, duplicate-aware partitioning, decision-tree quantifiers, fixed-width radix costs, external-sort I/O, dictionary reachability, universal-hashing assumptions, heapify's height sum, and stream state. Review reference code and independent oracles separately; passing an oracle is not proof that either implementation is correct on all inputs.

Runnable review

Extract the offline package and run reference checks and the deterministic report. Confirm the untouched starter fails. Deliberately reverse stable merge ties, break tombstone search/update, or consume complete streams; the appropriate checks should fail. Restore the reference and use fresh fixtures. Inspect source for algorithm delegation, bottom-up construction and asymptotic costs. The public checker is feedback, not a secret or sufficient certification test.

Human pilot

Recruit learners who pass the prerequisite diagnostic, including at least one with limited prior exposure to sorting and hashing. Record actual time by cluster, setup failures, misunderstood wording, assistance, counterexamples found, and assessment results per competency. Use two reviewers on a sample of submissions; record disagreements and revise the rubric. Do not invent a pilot sample or retroactively mark independent work when the reference was used.

After 7–14 days, give an unseen transfer task with changed tie, deletion, or memory requirements. Compare retained reasoning with initial scores. Revise workload, examples and remediation based on the evidence. The initial 65–90 hour estimate is a planning range, not a measured completion time or a guarantee.
