Competencies, Evidence, and Remediation
This is an authored rubric awaiting expert review and learner calibration. It measures stated skills, not a population percentile or professional rank.
| ID | Skill | Practice and lab | Repair |
|---|---|---|---|
| AD1 | Prove tight bounds under a cost model | A1; Lab A | Write the exact sum and matching inequalities |
| AD2 | Derive recurrences with base/leaf work | A2–A3 | Draw small trees, then prove the general bound |
| AD3 | Distinguish sequence and single-operation cost | A4; Lab A | Fix initial state and telescope potential |
| AD4 | Prove correctness and termination | B1–B4; Lab B | Trace first invariant failure and strict decrease |
| AD5 | Justify greedy choices and pruning domains | B5,C1; Lab C | State what exchange preserves; find a counterexample |
| AD6 | Design DP and return a valid witness | C2–C4; Lab C | State compatible prefixes, dependencies, recovery |
| AD7 | Separate proofs, tests, bit costs, measurements | A5,C5; Lab D; measurement memo | Name the evidence boundary and omitted cost |
Completion requires four learner functions passing the public checks, a reproducible report, both coin-change formulations from C4, written proof/cost evidence, and the measurement memo. Score at least3/4 in each independent assessment item, including its assumption point. Reassess missed competencies after repair; a total average cannot hide a gap.
Critical errors requiring repair include an unproved greedy rule, incorrect endpoint semantics, unsafe signed pruning, a nondecreasing termination variant, fabricated timings, treating tests as universal proof, or confusing amortized with per-operation cost.
After 3–7 days, a reviewer changes two weak problems' numbers and at least one assumption. Explain which formulas survive before solving. If studying alone, use closed intervals or a different growth policy and label the result self-assessed. Record guided, self-assessed, independently reviewed, and delayed-recheck statuses separately.
Keep date, source version, evidence paths, assistance, score by competency, reviewer, correction, and changed-case result. The instructor guide explains the remaining review and pilot work.
